CONTINUED RELIANCE ON FOREIGN CONSULTANTS CREATES A DEPENDENCY SYNDROME THAT PROVES DIFFICULT TO SUSTAIN

The Minister for Communications, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Thursday 11th 2010, called on the banking sector to consider hiring the expertise of indigenous ICT companies to develop software and other relevant products for the sector.
Adding that, the continued over-reliance on foreign consultants at great expense, creates a dependency syndrome that consequently proves difficult to sustain in the long-run. He made this passionate appeal at the launch of the ninth banking awards at the Alisa Hotel.

NON-COMPLIANCE WITH PRESIDENT’S DIRECTIVE TO UNDERTAKE LOCAL PRINTING OF SCRATCH CARDS

The Ministry of Communications wishes to express its dissatisfaction and disapproval of the conduct of Telecom Operators to comply with the directive of H.E. John Evans Atta Mills, to endeavour to print scratch cards locally and within the country; to create opportunities for employment for Ghanaians and to support indigenous Ghanaian printing businesses.

GHANA GOES DIGITAL BY 2010

A Technical Committee on digital broadcasting has been inaugurated at Accra. The 24-member committee is to assist the implementation of Ghana’s migration from analogue to digital broadcasting.

GHANA SOUTH KOREA SUSTAIN RELATIONS

The Embassy of the Republic of South Korea has presented 150 sets of computers to the Ministry of Communications for distribution to Community Information Centers (CiC’s) in rural communities in Ghana.
