Welcome
Introduction
The Ministry of Communications was created in July 2003 by an Executive Instrument No. 6. It has along history dating back to 1958, when it was known as the Ministry of Communications and Works. In the 1970s it  was merged with transport to become Ministry of Transport & Communications. In March 1997 a new Ministry was created out of the former Ministry of Informatiom and the Communications Division of the erstwhile, Ministry of Transport and Communications.This change did not last long as it reverts to its former name of Ministry of Transport and Communications in January 2001 and later  Ministry of Communications and Technology. Minister of Communications, Dr. Benjamin Aggrey Ntim has invited ICT companies worldwide to invest in Ghana as the Government is providing the requisite impetus by producing vibrant ICT policies and strategies for the country. The policy, he emphasised, represents the ministry’s desire to ensure that ICT capabilities are harnessed, replicated, and adapted in both formal and informal setups

News: PRESS RELEASE ON THE PRIVATISATION OF WESTEL.

News The Ministry of Communications announces the conclusion by the Government of Ghana (GoG) of a sale and purchase agreement with Celtel International, a subsidiary of Kuwaiti company Zain (formerly named MTC) in respect of 75% of the shares of Western Telesystems (Ghana) Limited, (Westel). The GoG through the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation holds the remaining 25%.

News: South Africa Telkom Seals Takeover of Africa Online

News TELKOM Ltd South Africa has completed its planned takeover of website manager, Africa Online (AoL) for a total consideration of 4,2 million British pounds.

Although the transaction is still subject to shareholder consent, at least 41 percent of African Lakes Corporation shareholders -- parent firm to AoL -- were backing the deal, the firm said in a statement this week. Africa Lakes hopes to garner more support from other major equity holders.

News: I2CAP is Now Nationwide

News The successful completion of a two-day training of trainer's workshop by 84 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tutors from 48 Senior Secondary Schools in the three northern regions has marked the roll-out of the i2CAP project nationwide.

The course was organized by Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT with funding from Finatrade Foundation.

News: ICT awards to be held in May 2007

News The first-ever excellence in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) awards is to be held on May 18, this year, as part of the Ghana at 50 celebrations.

The programme to be hosted at a dinner dance by the Ministry of Communications in collaboration with private internet service providers forms part of a series of events dubbed: "Ghana @ 50 -The Future is ICT".
