The Hon. Minister of Communications, Dr. Benjamin Aggrey Ntim has invited ICT companies worldwide to invest in Ghana as the Government is providing the requisite impetus by producing vibrant ICT policies and strategies for the country. The policy, he emphasised, represents the ministry’s desire to ensure that ICT capabilities are harnessed, replicated, and adapted in both formal and informal setups.

The motive, Dr. Aggrey said, is to make the acquisition of Personal Computers affordable in order to increase the patronage.

Another initiative, the Minister pointed out was the signing to the Nicholas Negroponte One Laptop Per Child Project, which seeks to expand the use of computer technology in schools. This, Dr. Aggrey indicated, demonstrates Government commitment to encourage competition in the ICT sector of the country.

The Managing Director of OMATEK, Mrs Florence Seriki enumerated the benefits of the company to the country as follows:

After becoming Premium Partners with major brands in 1991, it launched its first locally Assembled Omatek Computer Brand from Semi Knocked Down Assembly in 1993 in Nigeria. In 2003, OMATEK, she stated established its first locally assembly factory in Africa.
