BOARD DIRECTORS FOR KACE INAUGRATED 11/11/09
Posted by: admin on Nov 16, 2009 - 06:34 PM
The Minister for communications, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has inaugurated a nine member Board of Directors to steer the daily affairs of the Kofi Annan Center for Excellence (KACE). Addressing the board at the inaugural ceremony, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu urged the Board of Directors to ensure that they fashion out strategic policies and programmes in order to meet up with the dynamic trends in the ICT sector.

Adding that the strategic direction of the center will contribute immensely in bridging the digital gap. Hon. Haruna Iddrisu expressed satisfaction at the caliber of members of the Board, which he noted have an ample range of experience in research and development, education, legal and public policy issues. He went on to encourage the civil service sector to make use of the opportunities available at the Kofi Annan ICT center of excellence in order to compete favourably within Sub-Saharan Africa and indeed beyond.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu disclosed that a Primary Data Center is going to be established near Kofi Annan Center for Excellence to forestall the incidence of any future loss of data as happened during the unfortunate fire incident at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Subsequently he said a Secondary Data center would be put up in Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo Region. He also indicated that very soon, a bill will be brought before Parliament; the bill the Minister explained will seek to make the KACE autonomous and enable it accrue more revenue for the management of the center.

The Chairman of the Board, Mr. Kwaku Dua Danquah, on behalf of colleague Board Members assured H.E. President John Atta Mills, that his team will work assiduously to ensure that KACE is relevant to the developmental needs of Ghana.

The Director General of KACE, Miss Dorothy Gordon, pledged her outfit’s support to the Board of Directors as well as work to ensure that relevant training programmes are fashioned out for the benefit of the public service and educational institutions.

The Board of Directors took an oath of office and secrecy.
