News: ITU COUNCIL ELECTS GHANA AS VICE CHAIR

On 12 November 2008 Ghana was unanimously elected at the 63rd session of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Governing Council, Geneva, as Vice Chair. The 63rd session of the Governing Council was preceded by a High Level Segment (HLS) which witnessed an impressive attendance of two Heads of State, 21 ministers and 400 participants.

The Minister of Communication, Dr. Benjamin Aggrey Ntim, has reiterated government’s commitment to extending ICT access to underserved and unserved communities in line with the objectives of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) which enjoins member countries to promote universal postal access.

News The Ministry of Communications announces the conclusion by the Government of Ghana (GoG) of a sale and purchase agreement with Celtel International, a subsidiary of Kuwaiti company Zain (formerly named MTC) in respect of 75% of the shares of Western Telesystems (Ghana) Limited, (Westel). The GoG through the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation holds the remaining 25%.
