Data Protection Commission Board Inaugurated

The Minister for Communications, Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has inaugurated the Governing Board of Data Protection Commission at a ceremony at the conference room of the Ministry. She called on members of the board to create synergy with other agencies of the Ministry for efficiency in the Communications sector. She said, it was important to protect personal data and that the right to privacy cannot be overemphasized regarding the ambitious infrastructure development programme the government is embarking on for the ICT sector. . 
 
The widespread use of ICT is a foundation for sustainable economic development for the country and digitisation is having a positive impact on foreign direct investment, productivity and job creation, according to the Minister.
She stressed that, she had a clear conviction that the Board will live up to expectation to provide the needed protection for all under the Data Protection Act. She was confident that the varied qualification and rich experiences of
Board members will ensure that they make valuable contributions to enhance the work of the commission.
The chairperson of the Governing Board Justice Inkumah Abban (Rtd) expressed gratitude to the Minister for the confidence the President had in them and pledged to work as a team to improve the sector tremendously. 
 
Members of the board include Mad. Patricia Poku, Ag Executive Director of DPC, Mr. Joseph Anokye, Ag Director General of NCA, Mr. Joseph Whittal, Commissioner of CHRAJ, Hon Vincent Sowah Odotei, Deputy Minister of Communications, Mr. Jeffrey Konadu Addo, Director General of NITA, Dr. Maxwell Opoku- Afari , First  Deputy Governor of BOG, Mr. Baah Wadie, Government Statistician, Mr. George Kofi Gabla, Industry forum Representative, Mad Afua Asabea Asare and Mr. Alex Appawu, President’s nominees.
